What is a class action suit and when can it be used in international litigation?
A class action suit is a type of lawsuit that allows a group of people to join together and sue another party. In an international litigation situation, a class action suit may be used when a large number of people have similar grievances against the same defendant. For example, if a company is accused of selling defective products to consumers in multiple countries, a class action suit may be the best way to bring justice to the consumers. In a class action suit, a representative plaintiff stands in for the whole group of affected people. The decisions made in a class action suit may also create precedents for future legal cases with similar circumstances. However, class action suits are not suitable for cases where individual plaintiffs have different claims against the defendant, as the court is only able to rule on a single judgement that applies to everyone in the group. In general, class action suits can be a powerful tool for seeking justice when wrongdoings have been committed against a large number of people.
