How long is a green card valid for?
A green card is the most common form of permanent residency in the United States. Generally, green cards are valid for 10 years. In Florida, if you have a green card from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), you can remain in the United States permanently as long as you do not violate the terms and conditions of your status. You must also renew your green card every 10 years. This is known as the “green card renewal” process. During the green card renewal process, you must present evidence that you have maintained continuous residence in the United States. You may also be required to submit documentation about any criminal activity or violations of immigration law. If your application is approved, you will be issued a new green card with a new expiration date. It is important to note that green cards are not automatically renewed. You must submit a new application to the USCIS prior to the expiration of your current green card. If you fail to do so, you may face deportation or other consequences. In addition, green cards can be revoked or canceled at any time. If USCIS determines that the information you provided during the application process was not truthful, or that you have violated the terms of your status, your green card will be revoked or canceled. It is therefore important to stay up to date with U.S. immigration laws and to follow the green card renewal process carefully. Doing so can help you maintain your lawful immigration status in the United States.
