What is the process for applying for a T-visa?
The T-visa is a type of immigration visa for victims of human trafficking. It allows those who have suffered from human trafficking to remain in the United States and apply for permanent residency. In order to apply for a T-visa in California, applicants must first complete Form I-914, Application for T-Visa. This form asks for detailed information about the applicant and their experiences. In addition to completing the I-914 form, applicants must also provide supporting documentation that demonstrates their eligibility. This includes evidence of human trafficking, proof of being present in the US and a letter of certification from a law enforcement agency or government official (such as the Department of Health and Human Services or Department of Justice). Applicants must also provide proof of identity, such as a copy of their passport or other government-issued photo ID. Applicants must also provide two passport-style photos. Once the application is completed and the supporting documents are submitted, the USCIS can decide whether the applicant is eligible for a T-visa. If the application is approved, the applicant will be issued a nonimmigrant visa. This allows the applicant to legally live and work in the United States. Once the applicant has met all the requirements of the T-visa, they can apply for permanent residency.
