What are the different ways to become eligible for US citizenship?

In the United States, there are several ways to become eligible for US citizenship. The most common path is by birthright citizenship, which is automatically granted to individuals born in the US or certain territories, such as Puerto Rico. It is also possible to apply for naturalization, which requires someone to meet certain criteria, such as being 18 years of age or older, having been a permanent resident for at least 5 years, and having a basic understanding of the English language and US history. Another option is to obtain derivative citizenship from a parent who is a US citizen. This can happen if one of your parents was a US citizen at the time of your birth, even if you were born outside of the US. Additionally, individuals can obtain US citizenship through the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest (MAVNI) program, which provides a pathway to citizenship for members of the US military. Finally, there are ways to gain citizenship through marriage or close family relation to a US citizen. To be eligible, the individual must have been married to a US citizen or have had a family relationship (parent or child) of a US citizen for at least 3 years. Additionally, they must have legal permanent residency and have lived in the US for at least 3 years. No matter what path to citizenship you choose, all applicants must pass a US citizenship test and complete the necessary forms. After these steps are complete, individuals must attend a naturalization ceremony to formally become a US citizen.
