What is the Advance Parole program?

The Advance Parole program is a form of immigration relief available to certain non-citizens living in California. Under the program, non-citizens who have applied for legal permanent residence can travel outside the United States and then return without having to obtain a visa prior to reentry. To qualify for Advance Parole, non-citizens must have either filed an application for legal permanent residence or have a pending application for asylum. Advance Parole allows non-citizens to remain in the United States while they are abroad. This could be beneficial for those who need to visit family members outside the U.S. or travel for business. However, it is important to note that the Advance Parole program does not guarantee admission into the United States upon re-entry. When non-citizens return to the U.S., they must still meet certain entry requirements, including proving that they have not been outside the U.S. for more than one year. Advance Parole can also be used in combination with a work permit or deferred action, to travel abroad and return without having to obtain a visa. However, obtaining Advance Parole does not guarantee that a non-citizen will be granted a work permit or deferred action. Advance Parole allows non-citizens to maintain legal status while they are abroad, and is an important form of immigration relief available to those living in California. It can be an important tool for non-citizens to stay connected with family members abroad or travel for business, while also ensuring that they will be able to maintain their legal residency status in the United States.
