What are the eligibility requirements to apply for a work permit?

In California, there are several eligibility requirements that need to be met in order to qualify for a work permit. First, applicants must be at least 14 years old. Second, applicants must also be legally admitted into the United States or have legal protective status. Finally, they must have a Social Security card as well as a valid, unexpired foreign passport. In addition, applicants must have a valid reason for seeking a work permit. Generally, this could include full-time or part-time employment, attending school, or seeking an educational opportunity in the U.S. If an applicant is applying for work authorization under the age of 14, they must first obtain a written permission form from their parents or legal guardians. Additionally, applicants between the ages of 14 and 18 must have a “Certificate of Employment Eligibility” from a licensed California school. Applicants must also obtain a Letter of Acceptance from the employer. This document should include the start and end dates of employment, the position title, the employer’s contact information, and proof of prior employment, if applicable. Finally, applicants must provide the necessary documents, including the Employment Eligibility Verification form (I-9) and the Certificate of Employment Eligibility form, which must be signed by the employer. Once all of the necessary documents are in order, applicants can submit the forms to their local county employment office. After the forms are reviewed and approved, applicants will be issued a work permit.
