What is an M-1 student visa?

An M-1 student visa is a type of nonimmigrant visa for international students wishing to pursue a vocational or non-academic program in the state of Virginia. This visa is for those who want to attend a trade school or a technical school, such as a language school. In order to obtain an M-1 student visa, the applicant must have been accepted as a full-time student by an eligible school, demonstrate proficiency in the English language, and have enough financial resources to pay for tuition, living expenses, and other costs related to their studies. Once approved, the student can enter the United States and remain in the country to pursue their studies. With the M-1 student visa, the student is allowed to engage in academic studies and participate in optional practical training (OPT) related to the program of study in which they are enrolled. However, if the student wishes to work in the United States, they must obtain permission from the U.S. government. It is also important for the student to maintain a valid passport and address up to date with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to remain in the country legally.
