What is the difference between a tourist visa and a student visa?

A tourist visa is typically not renewable, while a student visa is typically renewable depending on the duration of the student’s studies. In addition, a student visa carries additional requirements above and beyond those for a tourist visa. For instance, the student must be accepted into a program of study in the United States and must demonstrate that they have adequate financial resources to cover the cost of their studies. The student must also provide proof of English proficiency. In some cases, students may also need to submit a medical examination report as well. In summary, the main difference between a tourist visa and a student visa is that a tourist visa allows foreign nationals to enter the United States temporarily for pleasure, while a student visa requires the foreign national to be accepted into a school program and have the financial resources to pay for their studies.
