What is the F-1 CPT program?

The F-1 CPT program, also known as the Curricular Practical Training Program, is a program offered to foreign students in Kansas who are enrolled in the F-1 visa program. Through this program, students can receive work authorization to participate in an internship, cooperative education, or any other type of required practical training that is related to their field of study. The F-1 CPT program allows students to gain vital training and experience in their field of study while also allowing them to maintain their student status. The F-1 CPT program is available to all foreign students enrolled in a college or university in the United States that have an F-1 visa. In order to be eligible for the program, students must have been actively enrolled as a full-time student for at least one full academic year prior to applying. Additionally, the internship or other practical training must be related to the student’s field of study and must be approved by their school before they can begin working. If approved, the F-1 CPT program allows students to gain real-world experience in their field of study while also helping to cover living costs. It’s important to note, however, that students who are participating in the program still remain responsible for their academic course load; they cannot take more than 20 hours of off-campus employment while in school. Additionally, students who take part in the F-1 CPT program must also be aware that the program has limitations on the amount of time that they can spend in the program.
