What documents do I need to apply for U.S. citizenship?

In order to apply for U.S. citizenship in California, you will need to submit a USCIS Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. This is the official form used by USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) to process applications for naturalization. This form asks questions about your personal information and history, and must be signed and dated. In addition to the Form N-400, there are several other documents and forms that must be included with your application. These include: • Proof of residence in California, such as a lease or utility bill • Two recent passport-style photographs • Form G-325A, Biographic Information • Form I-693, Medical Examination • Financial documents, such as your tax returns for the last 5 years • Documentation for any prior contact with immigration or criminal justice systems • A copy of your military record (if applicable) You will also need to submit the appropriate fee payment with your application. The current fee for applying for citizenship in California is $725 USD. This fee must be paid with a check, money order, or credit/debit card.
