How do I apply for a work permit?

If you’re looking to apply for a work permit in Washington State, you must first meet the eligibility requirements outlined by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). To be eligible, you must either be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen with a valid immigration status. You must also be at least 14 years old and no older than 18 in order to apply. To apply, begin by filling out USCIS Form I-765 for an Application for Employment Authorization. You will need to provide information about your identity, immigration status, eligibility for work authorization, and need for the authorization. Once the form is completed, submit the form to the USCIS along with a filing fee, which is usually around $410. The USCIS will then review your application to make sure it is complete and all of the criteria are met. Once the application is approved, you will receive a work permit that enables you to work in the United States for a specified period of time. The work permit will also list your employment restrictions. It’s important to note that the application process can take some time and that you must remain in valid immigration status while you wait for the application to be processed. If your application is denied or you are unable to maintain your immigration status, you will not be able to receive a work permit.
