How does an immigrant obtain a work permit?

In California, an immigrant can apply for a work permit through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). First, they need to complete the application form I-765, which is available at the USCIS website. This form requires the applicant to provide basic information such as name, address, and contact information. After submitting the application form, the applicant will be required to submit additional information and documents that prove their identity, their immigration status, and their employment eligibility. For instance, they will need to provide valid identification documents like a passport or birth certificate, proof of their country of origin, and documents demonstrating their employment eligibility. The USCIS also requires immigrants to appear for an interview with a local USCIS officer at a designated date and time. During the interview, the officer will review all of the documents that the immigrant submitted to the USCIS and ask questions about their application and background. Generally, the USCIS will either approve or deny the application within 90 days of the interview. If the application is approved, the immigrant will receive their work permit. In order to maintain their work permit and to avoid any problems with their immigration status, the immigrant must ensure that they comply with all of the requirements imposed by the USCIS. If they fail to do this, they could ultimately have their work permit revoked, which would make it much more difficult for them to gain employment in the United States.
