What is the difference between a green card and work authorization?
A green card and work authorization are two different types of immigration documents that are issued by the federal government. A green card, also known as a permanent resident card, is a document that allows a person to live and work permanently in the United States. On the other hand, work authorization is a document that allows a person to legally work in the United States for a certain amount of time. In North Carolina, a green card holder is eligible for many benefits that a work authorization holder is not. For example, a green card holder is eligible for Social Security benefits, can obtain a driver’s license, and can apply for U.S. citizenship. In addition, a green card holder is allowed to work in the United States permanently and can travel freely to and from the United States without the need of a visa. Work authorization, on the other hand, only enables a person to work legally in the United States for a specified period of time. This document does not allow the holder to become a permanent resident or to travel freely to and from the United States without the need for a visa. In summary, a green card allows permanent residence and work authorization in the United States, while work authorization only grants permission to work legally in the United States for a certain period of time.
