What are the requirements for applying for DACA?

In Maryland, those who meet the requirements for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) may be able to apply for this program. To be eligible, an applicant must have come to the United States before their 16th birthday and before June 15, 2007, been continuously present in the US since June 15, 2007, and be in school, have graduated from high school, have obtained a GED, or been honorably discharged from the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States. Additionally, the applicant must not have been convicted of a felony, a significant misdemeanor, or three or more misdemeanor offenses. To apply for DACA, applicants must submit form I-821D, “Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” and form I-765, “Application for Employment Authorization”, with the appropriate fee to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Supporting documents such as proof of identity, proof of entry into the US, and proof of presence in the US must also be included with the application. Once the application and supporting documentation is submitted to the USCIS, they will review the application and make a decision about the DACA request. Applicants may also be required to attend an in-person interview. The amount of time it takes to complete the application process varies, but it may take several months to process the application.
