How do I obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD)?
In order to obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) in the state of Kansas, you must file a Form I-765 with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form, also known as an “Application for Employment Authorization”, is used to apply for employment authorization or a work permit. You must also submit materials to include with your application such as a passport-style photograph as well as the filing fee. Depending on your immigration status, you may also need to submit additional forms or evidence such as a proof of authorized stay in the US. Once your EAD application is received by USCIS, it will be reviewed for eligibility. If your application is approved, you will be issued your Employment Authorization Document or work permit card. This document will allow you to engage in lawful employment in the United States. In order to maintain your EAD for a longer period of time, you will need to apply for renewal every once in a while. This process is similar to the initial application process. You must file the renewal Form I-765 and submit any necessary documents or fee required. You should keep in mind that different laws and regulations apply to different types of work authorization, each with their own set of specific requirements. It is important that you research and understand the immigration laws in the state of Kansas before applying for your EAD.
