What is the definition of inheritance law?
Inheritance law is a branch of law that pertains to rights and responsibilities regarding the transfer of ownership of assets from one person to another after the death of the original owner. In Alaska, inheritance law sets forth rules on who is entitled to the deceased person’s assets and how they are to be distributed. Inheritance law consists of two main components. Ultimately, the goal of inheritance law is to ensure that the deceased’s assets are distributed in accordance with the deceased’s wishes while also ensuring that any taxes owed on the estate are paid.
