What is the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)?
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is an international organization that promotes the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation. It was created by the Convention on International Civil Aviation (also known as the Chicago Convention), which was signed by 52 countries in 1947. The ICAO works with member states, international organizations, and other partners to create standards and regulations that ensure the safe and secure operation of international air transport services. It also promotes the development of aviation infrastructure, such as airports, navigation systems, and air navigation rules. The ICAO is headquartered in Montreal, Canada, and its activities are funded by 192 contracting states that are parties to the Chicago Convention. In Florida, the ICAO has established a regional office, which assists member states in achieving the objectives of the Convention. By upholding the standards and regulations of international civil aviation, the ICAO promotes the safe, secure, and efficient usage of airspace globally.
