What is the International Convention on Nuclear Safety (INSC)?

The International Convention on Nuclear Safety (INSC) is an international agreement that was adopted in 1994 and went into effect in 1997. It is the main legally binding treaty that deals with the safety of nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear energy. The aim of the treaty is to ensure that all countries that use nuclear energy take all necessary measures to ensure its safe use. The treaty applies to all countries that use civilian nuclear energy, regardless of their size. All parties to the treaty must agree to the same standards of safety and security when it comes to the design, operation, and storage of nuclear materials. This includes strict adherence to radiation protection standards, regular safety inspections, and risk assessments. In North Dakota, the treaty is implemented by the North Dakota Department of Health, which is responsible for the overall safety and security of nuclear power plants. The Department is also responsible for setting and enforcing safety standards for all nuclear facilities. It is also responsible for monitoring the activities of the industry to make sure that these standards are being met. All North Dakota facilities must comply with the standards set forth by the INSC. This includes regular safety inspections and regular safety reviews to ensure that the facilities are still meeting the security requirements of the treaty. In addition, the Department is responsible for ensuring that any new nuclear facilities in the state meet the same safety standards as those already operating.
