What is the International Criminal Court (ICC)?

The ICC has jurisdiction over a wide range of international crimes and can prosecute individuals from any of the 124 countries that have signed and ratified the Rome Statute. North Dakota has not signed or ratified the Rome Statute, so it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC. However, the ICC can step in when another country requests them to do so. The ICC is an important institution in the world today because it works to prevent and punish individuals for their involvement in serious international crimes.
