What is an insurance policy?
An insurance policy is a legally binding contract between an insurance company and a policyholder. This contract sets out the terms and conditions of the insurance coverage, and how it will be provided to the policyholder. In South Carolina, insurance policies are regulated by the State Department of Insurance. An insurance policy will include information about what is covered, how much protection is provided, the amount of the premium (the fees for the coverage), the date the policy begins, and the date the policy ends. In addition, the policy should include a list of exclusions (items or activities that are not covered by the policy) and limitations (if any). In South Carolina, there are many different types of insurance policies, including auto insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance, health insurance, and more. It is important to understand all of the details of the policy, including the coverages, exclusions, limitations, and fees. It is also important to understand that insurance policies can change over time, and it is important to read the policy documents carefully each time a policy is renewed.
