How do I file a complaint against my insurance company?
Filing a complaint against an insurance company in California is relatively simple. The first step is to contact the California Department of Insurance (CDI). The CDI is responsible for investigating consumer complaints against insurance companies doing business in the state. The experience the CDI has collecting and analyzing insurance complaints helps ensure that all claims are addressed properly. To file a complaint, you will need to provide the CDI with information about the company, including its name, address, and phone number. You will also need to provide a detailed description of the incident or problem which includes the date, time, and location where the incident occurred. If the complaint is regarding a claim, you will need to provide the claim number and any related paperwork, including police reports, medical bills, and/or repair estimates. You may also be asked to provide a copy of your policy or plan. You can file a complaint online, by mail, or over the phone. The CDI will investigate your claim and contact you with a resolution. If you are unsatisfied with the resolution, you may be able to pursue legal action against the insurance company.
