What is copyright law?

Copyright law is a form of intellectual property law in Utah that provides legal protection for original works of authorship, including literary, artistic, dramatic, and musical works. It is designed to give authors control over how their original works are used and to ensure they are compensated for their creative efforts. Under copyright law, original works are given exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, perform, display, and make derivative works from the original. The author is the only person who can use or profit from the copyrighted work without permission. Copyright law also allows authors to prevent others from using their work without their permission. Copyright law protects original works for a limited period of time, which is typically the life of the author plus 70 years. During this time the author has exclusive rights to the work and is due to be compensated for the use of their work. Copyright law is important as it helps to ensure authors are compensated for their creative efforts and their works are not taken without permission. It also encourages creativity and innovation and provides a safeguard against plagiarism.
