What is the difference between import and export duties?

Import duties and export duties are taxes imposed on goods entering and leaving a country, respectively. Generally, import duties are assessed at greater rates than export duties, due to the idea that the country is protecting its local producers. In Oregon, the state government sets tariffs for goods which are imported into Oregon from other countries. These are known as customs duties. Tariffs are applied to goods coming into Oregon in order to raise revenues for the state. The amount of Duty that needs to be paid is determined by the type of product and its origin. Export duties are taxes on products from Oregon that are sent to other countries. They are generally lower than import duties, since the intent is generally not to protect domestic producers. In Oregon, the export duties are set by the US Federal government, and vary depending on the goods’ destination country. The revenue from export duties is used to fund programs related to international trade, such as trade promotion and the US Trade Representative Office. Overall, import duties and export duties are taxes which are imposed on goods entering and leaving a country. Import duties are set by the state government and are usually higher than export duties, which are set by the US Federal government. These taxes are used to raise revenues for the government as well as fund programs related to international trade.
