What is the process for resolving a dispute between two countries?

When two countries disagree on a trade issue, they must find a way to resolve their dispute. The process of resolving disputes between countries is called international trade law. In Florida, the process of resolving international trade disputes begins with diplomatic talks between the two countries. During these discussions, both sides will attempt to reach an agreement. Depending on the complexity of the issue, this process can take days or even months. If diplomatic talks fail, the two countries may then turn to the dispute resolution process of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This process involves submitting written documents outlining the dispute and how it should be resolved, then presenting arguments before an appointed panel of experts. At the end of this process, the WTO will issue a verdict, which is binding on both countries. In some cases, if a dispute cannot be solved through diplomatic talks or the WTO process, the two countries may consider resorting to arbitration or third-party mediation. In arbitration, a neutral third-party will listen to both sides of the case and make a ruling, while in mediation, a third-party will facilitate negotiations between the two sides and may even suggest a solution. International trade law provides a variety of different options for resolving disputes between two countries. Diplomatic talks, the WTO process, arbitration and mediation are all viable methods that can be used to find a solution. The process chosen should depend on the complexity of the issue and the willingness of both sides to reach a mutually satisfactory outcome.
