What is the international law of self-defense?
The international law of self-defense is an internationally accepted legal principle that allows states to use force in order to protect their sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is usually applied when a state is required to use force against an aggressor in order to defend its citizens or its interests. Under the international law of self-defense, states are allowed to use force when necessary in order to respond to an armed attack against its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is sometimes referred to as the right to individual or collective self-defense. A state that exercises its right of self-defense is usually required to take measures proportional to the attack, and is also obliged to seek peaceful settlement methods before resorting to the use of force. Under international law, the District of Columbia must comply with the international law of self-defense. This means that it must use force to defend its citizens and interests, if needed, without violating international law. Additionally, the District of Columbia must use the appropriate measures to ensure the protection of civilians and refrain from using excessive force when exercising the right of self-defense. The District of Columbia must comply with its international legal obligations in order to ensure that it is in compliance with international law.
