What type of community re-entry programs are available to juveniles?
In Utah, juveniles who have been convicted of a crime may be eligible for community re-entry programs, depending on the severity of the offense and any other factors considered. Such programs are designed to help juveniles ease back into society, providing education, life-skills, and other support services. The Utah Division of Juvenile Justice Services provides a variety of community re-entry programs, including: • Job readiness and job placement assistance to help juveniles find employment in the community; • Social skills development to build confidence and improve communication with peers and adults; • Substance abuse counseling to help juveniles learn healthy habits and make better decisions; • Mental health services to assist in the treatment of mental health issues; • Youth mentorships to provide guidance and support; • Community service activities to help juveniles give back to the community; and • Education and educational opportunities to help juveniles earn their high school diploma. In addition, the Utah Division of Juvenile Justice Services partners with multiple organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah, to offer a variety of community re-entry services. This allows juveniles to take advantage of all that these organizations have to offer, as well as the state-sponsored services, to prepare for successful reentry into the community.
