What types of juvenile cases can be handled in court?
In Washington, juvenile cases are handled in court when the alleged offender is 10 years old or older. There are a variety of juvenile cases that can be handled in court. Common examples of status offenses include truancy, curfew violations, and underage drinking. In Washington, all of these juvenile cases can be handled in court. Depending on the severity of the offense, the court may opt to take rehabilitative or punitive measures. In some cases, the juvenile may be sent to a juvenile detention facility, while in other cases the juvenile may be placed on probation or be required to pay a fine or restitution.
