What is the difference between a juvenile detention center and a juvenile correctional facility?

In Texas, juvenile detention centers are usually short-term facilities where juveniles can be held for up to 48 hours. During this time, the juvenile must be interviewed and screened for any underlying psychological, social, or educational problems that could be affecting them, and they may even receive counseling. After this screening period, the juvenile may be released, or the court may determine that further detention is required. In this case, the juvenile may be transferred to a juvenile correctional facility, where they could remain for weeks, months, or even years. Unlike juvenile detention centers, which are designed as short-term, temporary holding locations for juveniles, juvenile correctional facilities are intended to provide more in-depth treatment plans and rehabilitation services to juveniles. Programs offered may include job and life skills training, drug and alcohol abuse counseling, academic instruction, and more. Juveniles in correctional facilities are also usually under much stricter rules and regulations than those in detention centers. Additionally, juveniles in correctional facilities may be subject to more intense surveillance and monitoring.
