What is the minimum wage?

The minimum wage in Nevada is currently $7.25 per hour. This rate is based on the federal minimum wage set by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Nevada minimum wage rate is slightly higher than the federal rate, which is currently $7.25. However, certain cities and counties in Nevada have higher minimum wage rates. For example, the minimum wage rate in Las Vegas and Clark County is currently $10.45 per hour. Additionally, the Nevada Constitution allows for an indexed minimum wage, meaning that the rate increases incrementally each year. In 2021, the rate of increase is set at or above the Consumer Price Index. Some specific occupations may be exempt from the minimum wage rate. Tipped employees, such as those who work in restaurants, are required to receive an hourly wage of at least $7.25, as well as tips. The combination of wages and tips must equal an hourly rate that is at least equal to the minimum wage rate. Nevada offers a number of protections to employees that guarantee they will receive fair compensation for their work. Any employee who believes they are not being paid the legal minimum wage should contact the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. The Department operates a Wage & Hour Division that can investigate any claims of violations of state or federal labor laws.
