What are the legal requirements for a valid marriage?

In California, there are a few legal requirements that must be met in order for a valid marriage to take place. If any of these conditions are not met, then the marriage is considered void. The first and most important requirement is that both parties to the marriage must be of legal age. For a person to be of legal age to marry in California, they must be 18 years of age or over. Any marriage involving someone under the age of 18 is considered void. The second requirement is that both parties must provide valid identification. This includes a valid government-issued ID or passport, which shows the age and identity of the parties to the marriage. Thirdly, both parties must receive a marriage license before the marriage can legally take place. The marriage license can be obtained from the county clerk in the county in which the marriage is to take place. The marriage license must be obtained at least 90 days before the wedding. Finally, both parties must sign the marriage license in the presence of a marriage officiate. This can be a priest, minister, rabbi, or any other authorized person by the county in which the marriage is taking place. If all legal requirements are met, then the marriage is considered valid and the marriage certificate can be acquired after the ceremony.
