Are there any laws regarding marriage and immigration?

Yes, there are laws regarding marriage and immigration in Washington. According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a foreign national who is the spouse of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (LPR) may be eligible to receive an immigrant visa in order to live and work permanently in the United States. In order to qualify for an immigrant visa, the foreign national spouse must demonstrate that the marriage was entered into in good faith and not solely for the purpose of obtaining immigration benefits. The foreign national spouse must also be admissible to the United States and meet the other legal requirements for admission. In addition, a foreign national may be eligible to receive a nonimmigrant visa if they are the fiancé of a U.S. citizen or LPR, or the fiancée of a U.S. citizen or LPR. If the fiancé or fiancée is admitted to the United States and marries their U.S. citizen or LPR sponsor within 90 days of entering, they may be eligible to apply for a green card. In either case, the U.S. citizen or LPR sponsor must submit a petition on behalf of their spouse, fiancé or fiancée, to the USCIS. It is important to note that the USCIS must approve the petition before any visas can be issued to the foreign national.
