What is the process for applying for a marriage visa?

In New Hampshire, a marriage visa, also known as a spousal visa, allows a foreign citizen to enter the United States with the intent to marry a U.S. citizen. Applying for a spousal visa can be a long and complex process, but it is important to understand the steps before you begin. The first step is for the foreign-citizen fiancé to submit Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé, to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form is used to initiate the spousal visa process. The USCIS will then review the application and, if approved, send notification to the foreign-citizen’s home country, informing them of the visa applicant’s approval. Next, the foreign-citizen fiancé must apply for a visa at a U.S. consulate office near their home. The visa application package includes a completed application form, a medical examination, and documentary evidence of the U.S. citizen’s legal status. Once the visa application is approved, the applicant will be granted an entry visa. After the foreign-citizen has arrived in the United States, the couple will have to marry within 90 days. If the marriage takes place, the foreign-citizen spouse can submit a Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to USCIS. This form will allow the foreign-citizen to obtain a permanent residence card, known as a “green card”. It is important to note that the spousal visa process can be lengthy and complex. It is important to follow all of the steps outlined above, and to consult an experienced immigration attorney if you have any questions or need further assistance.
