What is the minimum age for a couple to get married without parental permission?

In Indiana, the minimum age for marriage without parental permission is 18 years old. However, any person between the ages of 15 and 17 may marry if they have a parent’s consent. The consenting parent or legal guardian must appear in person and give permission in front of the county clerk or become an affiant by signing a consent form. The consent form must then be notarized. If a person between the ages of 15 and 17 wishes to marry without parental consent, they must get permission from the court, in accordance with Indiana Code 31-11-4-1. No person under the age of 15 may marry, regardless of parental permission. A minor between the ages of 15 and 18 who has parental permission may still need approval from the court if the judge believes that the marriage is not in the best interest of the minor. In addition, even if the legal age of marriage is met, if there is a significant age difference between the couple the court may reject the marriage. Finally, a person under 18 can annul their marriage with the permission of their parent or guardian. The annulment must occur within 60 days after the date of the marriage. If the marriage is still intact after this period, only a court can annul the marriage.
