Are there any restrictions on the sale of medical marijuana to minors?

Yes, there are restrictions on the sale of medical marijuana to minors in Florida. According to the Florida law, a minor must be at least 18 years old to qualify for a medical marijuana card. Any minor under 18 must be in the continuous care of an adult registered as their legal guardian with the State of Florida in order to be eligible to purchase medical marijuana. That adult guardian must also be the one who initiates the minor’s application process and provides medical certification for the minor. Additionally, individuals who qualify for a medical marijuana card must also be Florida residents and must be suffering from a qualifying debilitating medical condition. These conditions include cancer, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, PTSD, Crohn’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS, and other similar medical conditions. These conditions must be diagnosed by a Florida licensed doctor who specializes in the treatment of these conditions. The sale of medical marijuana to minors also requires that the minor be accompanied by an adult at the time of purchase, who must provide their name, address, and photo identification to the dispensary. The dispensary can also require additional documentation from the adult and/or minor, such as proof of age, medical certification, and legal guardianship papers. Finally, if the minor is under 18 they must obtain written consent from their legal guardian prior to purchase, which must be provided to the dispensary. With these restrictions in place, the sale of medical marijuana to minors is closely regulated in Florida.
