Are there restrictions on the potency of medical marijuana products?

Yes, the state of Washington has restrictions on the potency of medical marijuana products. The Washington State Department of Health defines the potency of medical marijuana as the amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in dried marijuana flower, or the amount of THC in marijuana extract products, such as oils and tinctures. For medical marijuana products, the Washington State Department of Health has set a maximum potency limit of 10% THC. In addition, Washington State law requires medical marijuana dispensing organizations (MMDOs) to properly label products to ensure that they do not contain anything over the maximum 10% THC limit. MMDOs are also required to provide test results from an accredited laboratory that demonstrate the THC content levels of each of their products. Testing for potency must include results for THC and any other cannabinoids that may be present in the product. Lastly, medical marijuana patients are limited to purchasing 3 ounces (85.05 grams) of usable marijuana, 16 ounces (453.59 grams) of marijuana-infused product in solid form, or 72 ounces (2.03 kg) of marijuana-infused product in liquid form in a single day. Vendors also have the right to refuse to serve any patient that appears to be overusing medical marijuana.
