What are the different types of maritime injuries?

Maritime injuries occur when a person is injured while working on, or near, a boat, ship, or other type of water vessel. In Arizona, those injured in a maritime accident are covered by a federal statutory system known as the Jones Act. Maritime injuries can be physical, psychological, and financial in nature. Physical injuries are the most common type of maritime injury. These can include broken bones or torn muscles due to an incident onboard a vessel such as a slip and fall, a collision with an object, or a malfunctioning piece of equipment. Psychological injuries that can occur in a maritime setting can include post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues due to a traumatic incident, such as a shipwreck or storm. Financial maritime injuries involve a person’s loss of wages or other income due to an injury on a vessel. This may be due to medical expenses, lost wages or income from a job, or for a lack of ability to work or commute to work due to an injury. These financial losses can be extremely difficult to recover from and may require legal help. Other types of maritime injuries include those caused by hazardous materials, such as diesel fuel, and occupational illnesses resulting from exposure to toxins or other hazardous conditions. Those injured in a maritime setting may be eligible for compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and other losses that result from their injuries. It is important to seek the advice of a personal injury attorney to determine the best course of action for any maritime injury claim.
