What is the law of the sea?

The law of the sea is a set of international laws that govern activities conducted in maritime waters. This set of laws is applied to the ocean territory that lies beyond the recognized boundaries of sovereign coastal states. In addition, the United Nations has established a system of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations which are responsible for managing resources in the areas of fishing, aquaculture, and living marine resources. These organizations work with the coastal states in South Carolina to ensure these resources are protected and used in a sustainable manner.
