What is the law regarding ship registration?
In Minnesota, all vessels that are used for any type of boating, fishing, or other maritime activities must be registered with the U.S. Coast Guard or the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This applies to any vessel that is over 12 feet in length and not documented by the U.S. Coast Guard as a commercial vessel. The purpose of registration is to ensure boats are safe and meet all of the necessary safety and environmental requirements. It also helps with law enforcement and provides a way to identify owners of the vessels if they are lost or stolen. When registering a boat, the owner must provide information about their vessel, such as the name of it and its manufacturer. They are also required to provide proof of ownership. The registration will include an identification number that will be assigned to the boat and must be displayed on the hull. In addition to registration, boat owners must renew their registration each year and update any changes that have occurred with their boat. This includes changes to the hull, such as adding new engines, adding new safety equipment, or making modifications to the boat. To register your vessel in Minnesota, you will need to fill out an application form, provide proof of ownership, and pay the appropriate fees. For more information about registering your boat, please contact the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources or the U.S. Coast Guard.
