How long does parole or probation typically last?

In Nevada, the length of parole or probation depends on the type of sentence a person receives from the court. Generally, those who are sentenced to traditional probation will be on probation for a period of one to three years. Those who receive suspended sentences may be placed on probation for up to five years. Parole typically follows a period of incarceration at a state or federal prison. When an offender is released from prison and is placed on parole, they will be on parole for the remainder of their sentence, or until they violate the terms of their parole. Depending on the individual’s sentence, parole can last up to three years or longer. It is important to note that whether a person is on probation or parole, they will be responsible for meeting the conditions set forth by the court and the supervising parole or probation officer. Failure to meet these conditions could result in an extension of their parole or probation or a violation of probation hearing. Additionally, both probation and parole require an individual to adhere to all applicable laws.
