What is the due date for my property taxes?
In California, property taxes are due on or before April 10 each year. You can pay either the full amount due or the first installment without accruing any delinquent fees. The first installment is due on or before December 10 and the balance is due on or before April 10. If April 10 falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, property taxes are due on the next business day. In addition to paying your property taxes, you may also elect to make installment payments. Payments are due on or before the 10th day of each month from December through April. Note that if you choose to make payments through the installment program, you must still make sure you pay at least the first installment due by December 10 and the balance due by April 10 to avoid delinquent fees. If property taxes remain unpaid after April 10, a 10% penalty will be added to the balance due. In some counties, additional fees or interest may also be added. To avoid delinquent fees, it is important to make sure your payment is postmarked on or before April 10 or, if paying via an online payment system, is completed on or before April 10.
