How do I obtain a real estate license?

In order to obtain a real estate license in Virginia, you will have to pass both a national and a state real estate exam. The first step is to apply for the national exam with the Virginia Real Estate Board (VREB). Once this application has been approved, you will then need to attend an approved real estate school and pass the state examination. To qualify for the national exam, applicants must have a high school diploma or a GED certificate, be at least 18 years of age, and demonstrate a basic understanding of real estate principles. Once you have applied for the exam and been approved, you will be required to attend an approved real estate school to obtain your license. The school should provide you with the necessary course materials and instruction hours to allow you to pass the exam. Once you have completed the course, you will then need to register for and pass the state real estate exam. The exam is fairly comprehensive and covers all aspects of real estate law in Virginia. After you have passed the exam, you will be able to apply for a license from the VREB. Once you have obtained a real estate license in Virginia, you will then need to complete continuing education courses every two years in order to maintain your license. Following these steps should be enough to help you obtain a Virginia real estate license.
