What is the difference between a realtor and a real estate agent?

Realtors and real estate agents are both licensed professionals who help facilitate the sale of residential real estate, but there are some important differences between them. Realtors are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and must abide by their Code of Ethics. This code of ethics sets higher standards of practice and professionalism than licensed real estate agents. Realtors must also complete extensive training and continuing education courses each year. Real estate agents are also licensed professionals, but they have not necessarily taken the extra steps needed to become members of the NAR. As a result, they are not held to the same standards of practice and professionalism as Realtors. Realtors have access to the multiple listing service (MLS), which provides detailed information about available properties, including the final sale price, which allows them to better negotiate on behalf of their clients. Licensed real estate agents do not have access to this valuable information. Realtors also have more experience and know-how when it comes to residential real estate law in Missouri. They understand the legal process of buying and selling a home, and they are familiar with local laws and regulations. Plus, Realtors have an extensive network of contacts in the industry, which can be helpful in finding the best deals and navigating tricky legal issues.
