How do I become a real estate agent?

In Virginia, to become a real estate agent, you need to fulfill the requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). First, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must also complete a 60-hour pre-licensing course approved by the DPOR, pass an end-of-course exam, and submit a completed application for a salesperson’s license. Additionally, you must submit to a background check and provide proof of Errors and Omissions insurance coverage. Once your application is approved, you will be required to take the Virginia Real Estate Knowledge Exam. Upon passing the exam, you will be issued a real estate license.
