What other benefits may I be eligible for if I am approved for Social Security Disability?
In Virginia, if you are approved for Social Security Disability, you may be eligible to receive other benefits. These can include medical coverage through Medicaid or Medicare, depending on your income and other resources. You may also be able to get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). SSI provides cash payments and helps pay for basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter. WIC provides food assistance and nutritional counseling to low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5. In addition, you may qualify for vocational rehabilitation services and be able to receive help finding a job. The Virginia Department of Social Services provides assistance with training, job placement, and referrals. You may also be eligible for housing assistance, such as Section 8 housing vouchers. Finally, you may be able to get additional support from a variety of community resources, such as food pantries and transportation services.
