How often can I expect to receive a check?
Disability benefits are typically paid out on a monthly basis in Washington. Generally, a disability check will be sent to you on the same date each month. It is important to note, however, that checks can start off late if you are approved for disability benefits after the month for which you applied has already passed. Subsequent checks should arrive in the mail around the same time each month, with direct deposits being made available a day earlier. Keep in mind that if you qualify for back payments due to a time lag between when you applied for disability benefits and when your application was approved, you may receive a lump-sum check for these back payments. The Social Security Administration (SSA) will then send you regular monthly disability checks from that point onward. It is also important to note that disability benefits are subject to taxation. As a result, depending on how much you are earning, you may end up owing taxes on your disability check. The SSA has rules in place to calculate how much in taxes you should expect to pay each year, so it is a good idea to stay up to date on these rules to make sure that you are paying the correct amount.
