What are the eligibility requirements for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)?
In order to be eligible to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) in Washington, the following eligibility requirements must be met: 1. You must have worked a certain number of years in jobs covered by Social Security. Specifically, you need to have worked five out of the last ten years prior to becoming disabled, or you need to have worked half the time since you became age 21. 2. You must have a medical condition listed in the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) impairment listing, or your condition must be equally as disabling as a condition on the list. 3.You must be unable to do the work that you performed in the past and unable to adjust to other types of work due to your medical condition. 4. You must have paid into the Social Security system through payroll taxes or self-employment taxes, and you must have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI. If you meet all of these criteria, you may be eligible for SSDI in Washington. To apply, you must fill out an application form and provide evidence of your disabling medical condition. It is also important to note that you may also qualify for other benefits through Washington, such as Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, which is an income supplement for those who have limited income and resources.
