How do I renew my trademark registration?

In New York, if you need to renew your trademark registration, you must file an Application for Renewal of Registration with the USPTO, officially known as the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application must be filed within the six-month period prior to the expiration of the registration, and must be accompanied by the appropriate fee. The application for renewal must include the following information: a) The mark that is being renewed; b) Current contact information for the trademark owner; c) The registration number of the mark; d) A statement that the mark is still in use in commerce; e) A list of goods and services covered by the registration; f) A sample or specimen of the mark as used; g) A copy of the renewal fee payment; and h) A statement that the mark is still being used in commerce in connection with the listed goods and services. If the renewal application is approved by the USPTO, the trademark registration will be extended for an additional 10 years beyond the original expiration date. The renewal application must be made every 10 years, in order to keep the trademark registration in force. Once a trademark registration is renewed, the trademark owner must continue to use the mark in commerce for all of the goods and services that it is registered in order to maintain the registration.
