How can I get points removed from my license for a traffic ticket?
In Georgia, drivers get points on their license for traffic tickets. Depending on the severity of the violation, the amount of points can range from 1-6. These points will remain on the license for 2-5 years. Fortunately, there are ways to remove points off of your license after receiving a traffic ticket. The first thing to do is to attend an approved defensive driver course that is offered through the Georgia Department of Driver Services. Upon completing the course, you may be able to get up to 3 points removed from your license. The Georgia DDS also provides an online defensive driving course which can also be used for point reduction. Another option is to have the court trial for your ticket. If you are able to prove your innocence in court, then the points can be removed. Keep in mind, your court case must be concluded before you can get the points removed. Finally, you can submit a petition to the Georgia Department of Driver Services. This petition should contain details about the traffic ticket and why you believe the points should be removed. Depending on the circumstances, the judge may decide to remove the points if they agree that it was an unjustified ticket. It is important to remember that you must follow the instructions given to you by the State of Georgia in order to have the points removed from your license. By following one of the three options given, you will be on your way to removing the points on your license.
