How can I get points removed from my license for a traffic ticket?

In South Carolina, drivers can get points removed from their license for a traffic ticket by taking an approved driver safety course. To qualify, the driver must have a valid South Carolina license, have no more than six active points on their driving record, and have not completed an approved driver safety course within the last three years. The driver will need to complete a Driver Improvement Program (DIP) offered by a provider approved by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. These courses are available both online and in-person and last anywhere from four to eight hours. During the course, the driver will learn defensive driving techniques, vehicle maintenance tips, and state laws and regulations. The course must be completed within 90 days of registering for it. Once the course is completed, the driver will receive a completion certificate. The driver must then submit this certificate to the DMV, along with the processing fee, within 30 days. If the driver is approved, their record will be updated to show that the points from the ticket have been removed. It’s important to note that while the points may be removed, the ticket and conviction will still remain on the driver’s record. Also, a driver can only benefit from the program once in a three-year period.
