What is the Veterans Administration (VA)?
The Veterans Administration (VA) is a United States government agency responsible for providing services and benefits to members of the armed forces, veterans, and their dependents. The VA is part of the executive branch of the federal government and is a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA provides services including health care, disability compensation, home loans, life insurance, and education benefits. In Louisiana, the VA operates a number of local offices throughout the state, which offer assistance with filing for veteran’s benefits such as disability and survivor’s benefits. The VA also works in partnership with local private and public organizations to provide health care services and other assistance for veterans. In addition, the VA offers a wide range of other services for veterans such as housing assistance, employment assistance, and counseling services. The VA also provides a number of educational benefits, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill, which help cover the cost of higher education expenses. Additionally, the VA provides a number of financial assistance programs, such as the Dependents Education Assistance Program and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program, which help veterans and their families become more self-sufficient. Veterans living in Louisiana can find more information about VA benefits and services on the Louisiana VA website at http://www.va.gov/louisiana.
